Start at the serial sticker near the foot of the mast, because it settles which list you order from. The PAL2 (202-0000) and the PAL2 Hi/Lo (252-0000) differ only in the mast, the three arms and the seat, which are taller on the Hi/Lo. The original PAL shares the drive parts, the 100-5000A actuator, 120-1100 motor, 800-5065 gear and 120-1000 motor mount, but has its own frame, housing and cast iron weights. When a PAL2 stops, the manual has you check the battery and the hand control plug long before the control box.

Which PAL2 do you have?

The PAL2 Hi/Lo (252-0000) has the taller mast for raised walls; the standard PAL2 is 202-0000. The model is on the serial sticker on the mast.

About S.R. Smith PAL2 Pool Lift Parts

The drawing is S.R. Smith's exploded view of the PAL2 from its owner's manual, with our numbered badges at the manufacturer's own item numbers. Pick PAL2 or PAL2 Hi/Lo in the chooser and the five keys that change between them, the mast (8), actuator arm (8B), support arm (8C), seat arm (8D) and seat (9), switch to that version's part numbers. Detail A beside it enlarges the motor mount assembly (7) with the 24 V motor (4) and the small gear (5) that turn the lift. A part this store does not sell keeps its badge and number for reference.

Sold here for both PAL2 models: the LiftOperator 400-7000 control box, the 1001495 battery and 1001530 charger, the 100-5000A actuator, the 120-1100 motor, the 800-5065 gear, the 120-1000 motor mount assembly, the 200-2000 rigid caster, the 200-4100 stabilizer, the 202-7000 handle, the 900-1000 seat belt and the 200-1090A Secure-It kit that locks the lift to the deck. The options the list names are the 920-5000 deck cover, the 910-1000T console cover, the 970-5000 seat cover and the 900-6000 stability strap.

The original PAL (200-0000) uses the same hub, motor mount, motor, gear, actuator, casters, stabilizer, seat belt and Secure-It kit. Its standard mast and arms are the Splash! numbers (150-1100A and up), not the PAL2's gray 152 series, and its Hi/Lo and Spa versions use the 150-2100A Hi/Lo set the PAL2 Hi/Lo uses. The frame (200-1000 against 202-2000), the housing and the counterweight differ: cast iron plates on the PAL, a concrete block on the PAL2. The PAL manual this page draws on is the California (CEC) edition, so its list names the BC battery 1001495-BC and BC charger 1001530-BC.

Before replacing anything, fully charge the battery. If the lift will neither rise nor turn, check the battery connection and try a second charged pack; the manual points to the control box only after that fails. If one motion works and the other does not, the hand control, the motor or the actuator is the suspect, and the questions below walk through the test. The daily and long term routine is in the pool lift battery and maintenance guide; what a replacement setup involves is in pool lift cost and installation.

Spare batteries and chargers, covers and anchors are filed on their own pages. Parts drawings for the other S.R. Smith lifts: Splash!, aXs2 and multiLift2. The lifts themselves are on S.R. Smith pool lifts, and the parent page is Pool lift parts.

Questions about S.R. Smith PAL2 Pool Lift Parts

Will a Splash! lift part fit my PAL2?

Some will. The PAL2 and Splash! lists share the 100-5000A actuator, 120-1100 motor, 800-5065 gear, 120-1000 motor mount, 1001495 battery, 1001530 charger, 900-1000 seat belt and, on a standard PAL2, the 160-8000A seat. A PAL2 Hi/Lo shares its 150-2100A mast and arms with the Splash! Hi/Lo. They do not share the hub (130-1000 on the PAL2, 135-1000 on the Splash!), the control box, the footrest or the standard PAL2's gray 152 series mast and arms. Match numbers, not names.

How do I tell a PAL2 from a PAL2 Hi/Lo when ordering parts?

Read the model number on the serial sticker at the bottom of the mast: 202-0000 is the standard PAL2 and 252-0000 is the Hi/Lo, built with a taller mast for raised pool walls. Only five parts change between them: the mast, actuator arm, support arm, seat arm and seat. The frame, housing, concrete block, casters, handle, stabilizers, motor, actuator and electronics carry the same numbers on both.

Does an original PAL from before 2012 take the same battery as a PAL2?

Not necessarily. S.R. Smith's old style LiftOperator pack, 100-2000, belongs to lifts built before January 2012, and later lifts take the new style 1001495 named on the PAL2 parts list. A California lift with the CEC charging system needs the 1001495-BC battery and 1001530-BC charger, which do not mix with standard parts. Check the build date on the serial sticker and the number printed on the pack you are replacing.

Which part on a PAL2 wears out first?

The battery. S.R. Smith gives a pack 2 to 3 years and 30 to 40 trips a charge, shorter if it is often run flat, and a pack whose light flashes red on the charger has a fault. After the battery, the manual's checks go to the hand control plug and its pins, then the motor or actuator, with the control box last. Rust is the other enemy: the schedule asks for a heavy duty rust inhibitor on the gear assembly and a dry wipe of the battery and control box contacts.

My PAL2 goes up and down but will not turn. Is it the motor?

Possibly, but test the hand control first. With a charged battery, check that the plug is fully seated, the pins are straight and the terminal block on the frame has no loose wires. Then press the left and right arrows on the control box itself: if the lift turns, replace the hand control. If not, swap the motor cable (connector 1) and actuator cable (connector 2) and press up and down. No turn points to the 120-1100 motor.
