20 x 40 ft Inground Pool Winter Covers

A 20 x 40 ft inground pool takes a 25 x 45 ft or 26 x 46 ft cover. The extra is the overlap, 2.5 or 3 ft on every side, and it laps onto the deck where the water tubes hold it down. Every cover on this page is listed by the pool it fits, and the covers cut for a larger pool that still work here are under Also fits.

These are cut for a larger pool but still work here. Each card shows the overlap it leaves on the sides and on the ends, so you can check it against your deck.

Inground winter cover questions

What size winter cover fits a 20 x 40 ft inground pool?

A 25 x 45 ft cover, or a 26 x 46 ft from the Cool Covers King line. The 25 x 45 is the pool plus 5 ft, which is 2.5 ft of overlap on every side; the King is plus 6 ft, so 3 ft.

How many water tubes does a 20 x 40 ft pool need?

18 tubes of 8 ft, or 14 of 10 ft. The tubes weight the cover's edge, not the pool's, so the run is the 25 x 45 ft cover: 140 ft, laid end to end.

Which covers cut for a larger pool also fit a 20 x 40 ft pool?

A 25 x 49 ft cover leaves 2.5 ft on the sides and 4.5 ft on the ends. A 29 x 45 ft leaves 4.5 ft and 2.5 ft, and a 30 x 50 ft leaves 5 ft all round. All are under Also fits, and all of them mean a longer edge to weight.

Solid, mesh or a leaf net for a 20 x 40 ft pool?

All three are here. Solid blocks the light and opens cleaner, with a cover pump to take the rain and snowmelt off. Mesh drains into the pool by itself. A leaf net is not a cover: it lies over the solid one and lifts off with the leaves in it.

How full should each water tube be?

Two thirds to three quarters, never full, because the ice needs somewhere to go. Lay each tube on the cover before filling it, and never use bricks or blocks instead: they tear the cover, and they follow anyone who falls in straight into the pool.
