Product details

Leisure Time Alkalinity Increaser is a concentrated granular product for raising total alkalinity in a spa or hot tub. The 2 lb container is sized for routine seasonal correction rather than a one time fill.

Why alkalinity comes first

Total alkalinity is the buffer underneath pH. When it drops below about 80 ppm, pH stops holding a level and starts bouncing every time somebody gets in or you add sanitizer, and chasing that pH with acid or increaser never quite works. Bring alkalinity back into the 80 to 120 ppm band and pH settles on its own.

Using it

Test first, and treat when alkalinity reads below 80 ppm. Add 1 oz, run the spa for 30 minutes so it circulates, then retest and repeat until you are in range. The formula dissolves quickly, which is what lets you move in small steps instead of overshooting. It works alongside chlorine, bromine, ozone and biguanide sanitizers. Always read the product label and use it as directed.

Questions and answers

What people ask about this product, answered by our pool techs.

How much do I add?
Add 1 oz to the spa water, let it circulate for 30 minutes, then retest. Repeat until total alkalinity reaches 80 to 120 ppm. Always read the product label and follow it.
When should I use it?
When a test shows total alkalinity below 80 parts per million.
What is pH bounce and why does this fix it?
pH bounce is pH refusing to hold still, swinging after every dose or every soak. Total alkalinity is the buffer that resists those swings, so restoring alkalinity is what settles pH down.
Will it work with my bromine or ozone spa?
Yes. It is compatible with chlorine, bromine, ozone and biguanide sanitizer systems.
