Leisure Time Renew is a non-chlorine shock for spas and hot tubs, supplied here in a 2.2 lb container. The active ingredient is potassium peroxymonosulfate, a quick dissolving granular oxidizer that is buffered so that shocking the water does not send pH wandering.
What it removes
Bathers bring in soap, body oil, lotion, deodorant and sweat, and none of that is killed by sanitizer because none of it is alive. It simply accumulates. That accumulation is what makes spa water cloudy, gives it a stale smell, and combines with chlorine to form the chloramines that smell worse still. Renew oxidizes the load so the sanitizer can go back to doing its own job.
