What the cover is for

A suction outlet is the point in a pool where water is drawn back toward the pump, and an uncovered or badly covered outlet is the reason entrapment rules exist. Anti-entrapment covers are shaped and ported so that a body or hair cannot seal against the opening and be held there. They are safety equipment, they age in sunlight and pool chemistry, and they are replaced on a schedule rather than only when they break.
