Product details
The Dura Plastics 406-020SW is a 2 inch sweep elbow in schedule 40 PVC, with a slip socket on each end. It turns the run 90 degrees over a long radius instead of a tight corner.
Why a sweep
Every fitting in a pool system costs head, and elbows cost the most of the common ones. A sweep elbow spreads the turn across a longer radius so the water changes direction gradually. Used on the suction side and immediately around the pump, sweeps are one of the least expensive ways to hold onto flow and keep a variable speed pump running at a lower, quieter speed.
Fitting it
Both ends are sockets. Cut the pipe square, deburr it, dry fit, then prime and solvent weld to the pipe manufacturer instructions. Dura lists the same sweep in 1-1/2 inch, and a 2 inch slip by spigot version for running directly into another socket fitting.
