A two speed pump runs slowly for filtration and circulation, then steps up to full speed for the jets. That is what lets a spa keep the water turning over without running a big motor around the clock.
The horsepower question
In 2012 the manufacturer changed how these pumps are rated. Aqua-Flo pumps now carry both an operational horsepower and a total horsepower figure, where older ones quoted operational horsepower only. If you are replacing an older Aqua-Flo, match the operational rating, which is 2.0 HP here, and ignore the 3.0 total figure for that comparison. Getting this backwards is the most common ordering mistake on these pumps.
