The SuperPro FC-9885 is the offset D.E. filter grid, measuring 16-1/2" x 18". It is listed under the Sta-Rite System 3 D.E. filter parts for the S7D75 and S8D110.
What the grid does
A D.E. filter works by coating its grids with diatomaceous earth. The grid fabric is the surface that powder clings to, and the powder is what traps the fine dirt. The grid itself never has to catch the dirt, but it does have to stay intact, because any hole in the fabric is a direct path from the tank to the return line.
The offset position
A grid set is made up of different sizes, with the offset grid sized to fit around the manifold. Check which position you are replacing before you order, since a full size grid will not sit where the offset one belongs.
When to replace it
D.E. showing up on the pool floor after a recharge means powder is getting past something. Take the set out, hold each grid up to the light and look for tears, thin patches and split seams along the edge banding. Replace what has failed and inspect the rest while they are out, since every grid in the set has run the same hours.
