Product details

The SuperPro FC-9350 is the full size vertical DE filter grid for 60 sq ft filters, measuring 11 inches by 30 inches. It is sold individually, and a complete set calls for seven of these full grids.

What the grid does

A DE filter works by holding a coat of diatomaceous earth on the fabric of the grids. That powder layer is what actually filters the water, down to a far finer particle than sand or a cartridge will catch. The grid itself is only the frame and fabric that holds the coat in place.

When to replace

Once the fabric tears, thins, or hardens with age, the DE coat cannot hold. The symptom owners notice is powder blowing back into the pool through the returns after recharging, and water that never quite clears. Pull the grid pack and inspect every element; a tear at a seam or along the top edge is easy to miss.

Grids are sold one at a time so a single failure does not mean a full set. That said, if several elements have aged together, replacing the whole pack usually restores filtration better than patching in one new grid among old ones.
