Product details

The Hayward DEX4800DA is a full grid element for Micro Clear and Pro Grid diatomaceous earth filters. It is the genuine Hayward part.

How a D.E. grid works

Each grid is a fabric covered frame. Diatomaceous earth coats the fabric, and it is that coating, not the fabric itself, that does the filtering down to the fine particle sizes D.E. filters are known for. The grids sit as a set in the tank around a central manifold.

When a grid needs replacing

The tell is D.E. returning to the pool. If powder blows back through the returns when you charge the filter, or you find grit on the floor near a return, a grid has torn or a manifold has split, and backwashing will not put it right. Pull the element cluster and look at every grid; damage is often in more than one. Match part number DEX4800DA and the sizing on your own filter plate before you order, and replace grids as a set wherever you can, since new fabric next to worn fabric loads unevenly.
