  • SuperPro FC-9850 Order by the SuperPro part number to get the right size grid.
  • Sold as one grid This listing covers a single grid, and a filter takes a full set.
  • Carries the DE The grid fabric is what holds the diatomaceous earth that does the actual filtering.
  • Replace the set together Mixing one new grid into a set of worn ones tends to send DE back to the pool through the returns anyway.
  • Inspect when you open up Check the fabric for tears and the seating at the manifold every time the filter is opened for a clean.

Product details

The SuperPro FC-9850 is a replacement D.E. filter grid measuring 19-1/4 inches by 18 inches.

How a DE grid works

A DE filter does not filter with the grid itself. The grid is a fabric covered frame that holds a coat of diatomaceous earth, and that powder is what traps the dirt. When the fabric tears or the seams open, the DE washes straight through and comes back to the pool as a cloudy plume at the returns.

Getting the right one

Grids are matched by size, so measure the one you are pulling out and compare it against the 19-1/4 by 18 inch dimensions here. A filter uses a complete set of grids rather than one, and because they wear at the same rate it is common to change the whole set at once. A new grid working alongside five worn ones often does not solve the DE in the pool.

Questions and answers

What people ask about this product, answered by our pool techs.

What size is this grid?
19-1/4 inches by 18 inches.
How do I know it is the right grid for my filter?
Measure the grid you are replacing. DE grids are matched by dimension and by the set they belong to, so the measurement is the check that matters.
Is this a full set of grids?
No. This is a single grid. A DE filter runs a complete set, usually a mix of full size and partial grids.
Should I replace just the one torn grid?
You can, but grids age together. A single new grid among worn ones often still lets DE through into the pool, so most techs change the set.
