Quick overview

  • Structural molded frame The frame is molded sturdy plastic, made to take real use rather than bend on the first load.
  • Fine mesh basket Holds leaves and finer debris, not just the big pieces.
  • Tapered front edge The leading edge is tapered so it slides under debris on the floor and steps instead of pushing it away.
  • Professional grade Swimline lists this as the heavy duty version in the Hydro Tools skimmer range.
  • Surface or floor Works for skimming floating leaves and for scooping debris that has settled.
  • Everyday tool The net that comes out most often, so a stronger frame pays for itself.

Product details

The Swimline Hydro Tools 8039 is the professional, heavy duty leaf skimmer in the Hydro Tools range. The frame is structural molded plastic and the basket is fine mesh.

Built to be used

A skimmer net is the tool that comes off the wall most often, and light ones flex and fail at the frame long before the mesh gives out. This one is molded as a sturdy structural frame, which is what makes it the heavy duty version.

The tapered edge

The front lip is tapered. That matters more than it sounds: a blunt rim pushes a pile of leaves ahead of it, while a tapered edge slides underneath so debris on the floor or on a step lifts into the basket on the first pass.

Fine mesh

The mesh is fine enough to hold small debris rather than letting it sift straight back into the water, so one pass actually removes what it picks up.

Questions and answers

What people ask about this product, answered by our pool techs.

What is the frame made of?
Sturdy structural molded plastic, which is what makes this the heavy duty version rather than a light aluminum rim net.
Will it catch small debris?
Yes. The basket is fine mesh, so it holds smaller material as well as leaves.
Why is the front edge tapered?
So the skimmer can be pushed under leaves and debris resting on the floor or a step and scoop them up, instead of nosing into them and shoving them along.
Can I use it on the surface as well?
Yes. It skims floating debris off the surface and scoops what has already sunk.
