The Aquador 1084 is a winterizing face plate and snap on cover for inground pools, made as the replacement for the Hayward SP1084 skimmer series. The kit is the face plate plus the 71084 cover.
What it saves you
The traditional way to close a pool is to drop the water below the skimmer so that nothing can freeze inside it. That means pumping water out in the fall and putting it back in the spring, with the cost and the liner stress that come with it. The Aquador plate seals the skimmer throat instead, so the water line stays where it is and the skimmer stays dry and protected.
Fitting
The face plate replaces the existing skimmer plate and goes on with a phillips head screwdriver. After that first fit, closing the pool is a matter of snapping the plastic cover on, and opening it is a matter of pulling it off. Note the kit does not include gaskets or screws, so have those ready before you start.
Check the measurements
The plate is 10-7/8 inches wide by 8-5/8 inches high, with an inner opening of 7-5/8 by 5-7/8 inches. Compare that against the skimmer you actually have rather than against the model number on a twenty year old cover.
