The Hayward SP1106 is the large Skim Vac skimmer vacuum plate, supplied with its gasket. It measures 7-1/4 inches in diameter, carries a 1-1/2 inch straight adapter, and is designed to fit over 7 inch skimmer baskets.
What a Skim Vac plate does
Vacuuming through the skimmer works best when the whole suction of the skimmer line goes down the hose rather than around it. The plate drops over the basket and seals the skimmer throat, so the vacuum hose gets the full pull and the basket still catches what comes up the hose. Without a plate you are relying on jamming the hose into the suction port, which loses prime constantly and lets leaves past into the pump.

Using it
Fill the vacuum hose with water first, then seat the plate over the basket. Dropping a dry hose in is what makes the pump lose prime and pull air the moment the skimmer is covered.
