Product details

These are the genuine Hayward SPX1090WMSG sealing gaskets for the face plate of an above ground pool skimmer, sold as a 2 pack.

Where they sit

An above ground skimmer bolts through the pool wall and the liner. A gasket goes on each side of that sandwich and the face plate screws pull the whole stack together. Those two gaskets are the only thing between the pool water and the outside of the wall, which is why they come as a pair.

When to change them

Gaskets take a permanent set and go hard with age and chlorine. The symptom is water running down the outside of the wall below the skimmer, or a water level that stops falling once it drops just below the skimmer mouth. Replace both, never one, and tighten the face plate evenly around the pattern so the gaskets compress flat.

How many gaskets do I get?
Two. Hayward sells SPX1090WMSG as a 2 pack.
Why are there two?
An above ground skimmer clamps through the pool wall and the liner, with a gasket on each side of that sandwich. Both are needed for the joint to seal.
My skimmer is leaking down the outside of the wall. Is this the fix?
It is the usual cause. Gaskets harden and take a set over the years, and once they stop conforming, water tracks past the face plate rather than staying in the pool.
Should I use sealant as well?
Fit the gaskets dry and tighten the face plate screws evenly, working around the plate rather than one side at a time. Sealant packed onto a gasket that is not sitting flat only hides the problem.
