This is the standard mounting plate for Waterway Renegade skimmers in the vinyl liner and fiberglass models. It is a new OEM part, Waterway number 519-9530.
What the faceplate does
On a vinyl liner pool the faceplate is not trim. It clamps the liner and the gasket against the front of the skimmer throat, and that clamp is the only thing keeping pool water on the pool side of the liner. On a fiberglass shell it does the same job against the shell face. Either way it is a structural seal, not a cover.
When it needs replacing
Faceplates crack around the screw holes, warp after a hard freeze, or go brittle from years of sun. Once the plate stops pulling flat, the seal opens and water starts working its way behind the liner, which is a far bigger and more expensive problem than the plate itself. Fit a new gasket at the same time, because a hardened gasket will not seal even under a fresh plate.
