What the header does
The header is the cast iron casting that carries pool water into and out of the heat exchanger. Everything the water is carrying passes through it, which is why the header is usually the first part of a heater to show the effects of low pH, high salt or heavy chemical dosing.
ASME and standard are different parts
Raypak builds these heaters in an ASME version and a standard version, and the headers are not the same. This listing is the ASME header, so check the rating plate on your heater before ordering.
Replacing it
Because the header is supplied complete, the repair is a swap rather than a rebuild. It is worth solving the water chemistry that damaged the original at the same time, or the new casting will follow the old one.
