The Little Giant 108482 is the intake screen for the Big John 6 series sump pumps, molded in black PP. It is the genuine Little Giant part.
What it does
A submersible pump draws water in at the base, and whatever the water carries goes with it. The intake screen is the barrier between the sump and the impeller. It holds back leaves, gravel, silt clumps and stray rag, all of which will otherwise wedge in the impeller, stall the motor or grind away at the volute over time.
Why it is worth replacing
Screens crack, warp and go missing during cleanouts, and the pump keeps running afterward, so nothing looks wrong until the day the impeller jams. The screen is one of the least expensive parts on the pump and it protects the most expensive one, which makes replacing a broken screen the easiest maintenance decision on the list.
