Product details

The SuperPro O-76-9 is the replacement o-ring for the Hayward Max-Flo pump strainer cover, listed in place of the Hayward SPX0125T.

The seal that decides whether the pump primes

The clear lid over the pump basket has to hold a vacuum. When the o-ring under it is fresh and soft, it does that without thinking about it. When the o-ring has hardened, flattened or cracked, the lid seats on a ring that no longer conforms, air leaks in on the suction side, and the pump loses prime, spits bubbles into the return, or never fills the basket at all.

Fitting it

Turn the pump off, take the lid off by hand, lift the old ring out and clean the groove and the sealing face. Wipe a thin film of pool grade silicone lubricant on the new o-ring, set it in, and put the lid back finger tight. Petroleum based grease attacks the rubber, so keep it away from this part.

What Hayward part does this replace?

SPX0125T, the strainer cover o-ring for the Max-Flo pump.

My pump keeps losing prime. Is this the problem?

It is the first thing to check. If the lid o-ring is flat, cracked or hard, the pump draws air past it and cannot hold a prime, and no amount of refilling the basket will fix that.

Should I grease it?

A thin film of pool grade silicone lubricant on the o-ring helps it seat and makes the lid easier to remove next time. Do not use petroleum grease on it.

Is the listing an o-ring or a gasket?

It is sold as an o-ring for the strainer cover. Some catalog entries for this part carry the wording strainer cover gasket, which is the same seal.
