Product details

The Waterway 805-0439 is the lid o-ring for the SVL56 pump. It is the genuine Waterway part, and it also appears on the Waterway Supreme CSA and Supreme 48 frame pool pump diagrams.

The seal that holds prime

The strainer lid sits on the suction side of the pump, which means the pump is pulling against it rather than pushing. That is why a bad lid o-ring does not usually leak water. It leaks air, and air on the suction side is what leaves a strainer pot half full, a pump that whines, and a system that will not hold prime overnight.

Keeping it sealing

Wipe the groove clean when the lid is off, and use a silicone based lubricant made for pool equipment, never a petroleum grease. Replace the ring once it has flattened, glazed or split. It is a small part with a large effect on how the whole system behaves, and it is worth having a spare on hand.

Which pump is this for?
The Waterway SVL56. It also appears on the Waterway Supreme CSA and Supreme 48 frame pump diagrams, so check the part number against your own pump.
My pump keeps losing prime. Is this the fix?
It is the first thing to check. The lid o-ring is the seal on the suction side of the pump, and any air drawn past it stops the pump holding prime.
Should I lubricate it?
A silicone based o-ring lubricant made for pool equipment keeps the ring supple and helps the lid seat. Do not use a petroleum grease, which attacks the rubber.
How often should it be replaced?
Whenever it looks flat, glazed, cracked or has taken a permanent set in the groove. Many owners change it once a season as routine.
