The Waterway 711-4010 is the union gasket for 2" unions. It is the flat seal that sits between the two union faces and is squeezed by the split nut.
What it fixes
Unions exist so the pump or filter can be taken out without cutting pipe, which means the joint gets broken and remade every time the equipment is serviced. The gasket takes the wear. It flattens, picks up a nick from a screwdriver, or gets dropped into the equipment pad and lost. The result is a union that will not stop weeping no matter how hard the nut is turned.
