Quick overview
- Genuine Hayward Factory part SPX1700FGV, the plug Hayward fits at the pump.
- Gasket included The sealing gasket comes with the plug, so you are not chasing it separately.
- The winterizing plug This is the plug you pull to drain the pump and put back when you open the pool.
- Stops a weeping pad A plug with a flattened or missing gasket drips at the housing and never quite tightens up.
- Cheap insurance Old plugs round off and crack under a wrench, and one seized plug can cost a whole housing.

Product details
The Hayward SPX1700FGV is the pipe plug for Hayward pumps, supplied with its gasket. It is the genuine Hayward replacement part.
What it does
This is the drain plug at the pump. It comes out when the housing has to be emptied, whether that is closing the pool for winter or draining down before a seal or impeller job, and it goes back in to seal the pump for the season.
Why it gets replaced
Drain plugs live a hard life. They are removed and refitted every year, they sit in chemical laden water in between, and they are the part most likely to be lost on the deck or rounded off by a wrench. Once the gasket has taken a set or the plug body has cracked, the pump weeps at the plug and no amount of extra torque fixes it. Since the gasket ships with the plug, replacing the pair is a two minute job.
