Product details

This is the genuine Hayward drain plug with gasket, listed as SPX4000FG and also carried under the number SP4000P. It is the plug used across a wide slice of the Hayward range.

Where it is used

Hayward lists it for the TriStar SP3200 and SP3200EE, NorthStar pumps from both the 1998 to 2007 and the 2008 to current runs, the Max-Flo II, the 6060 booster pump, and the HeatPro heat pumps HP6003T, HP11003T, HP21003 and HP2100TC03T. That breadth is why it is a standard item on a service truck.

Why it fails

The plug is pulled at every winterization and put back every spring, and the gasket takes a set from being torqued down season after season. A plug that no longer seals drips, and worse, lets the pump pull air instead of water, so the pot never fills and prime keeps dropping. Since the gasket is included, replacing the whole plug is the cleaner repair.
