Product details
The Hayward SPX4000Z1 is the union o-ring for TriStar pumps, also carried under the reference O-83. It measures 2-3/8 inches on the inside diameter with a 3/16 inch cord thickness, and it is molded rubber.
Where it goes
It seats in the union groove between the pump port and the union nut, on Hayward TriStar models SP3200 and SP3200EE and on Northstar pumps. Both the suction and discharge unions take the same o-ring, so a pump that has been apart usually wants two.
When to change it
Union o-rings take heat every time the pump runs and eventually go hard, flatten into the groove, or crack. Once that happens the union will keep weeping no matter how hard the nut is tightened, and overtightening only cracks the nut. Fit a fresh o-ring with a light coat of silicone lubricant and hand tighten the union.
