The Hayward SPX3200T is the housing o-ring for TriStar pumps, models SP3200 and SP3200EE. It is the genuine Hayward part.
What it seals
The ring sits in the joint between the pump housing and the seal plate. Everything upstream of the impeller is under vacuum while the pump runs, so this joint has to seal against air being pulled in, not just against water being pushed out. That is why a small imperfection in the ring produces a big symptom.
When to change it
Any time the pump comes apart. Once an o-ring has been compressed in service it takes a set, and a reused ring is the most common reason a freshly rebuilt pump still runs with air in the basket. A thin film of o-ring lubricant helps it seat and makes the next service easier.
