The Hayward SPX3200S is the strainer cover o-ring for TriStar pumps, the black rubber seal that sits between the strainer pot and its cover on SP3200 and SP3200EE models.
What it does
This ring is the only thing holding the suction side airtight at the pot. When it hardens, takes a permanent flat, or splits, the pump starts pulling air instead of water. The symptoms are familiar: a pot that never fills, a steady stream of bubbles at the returns, and a pump that loses prime every time it shuts down. Chasing that leak anywhere else in the plumbing usually wastes an afternoon.
Fitting and care
Wipe the groove and the sealing face clean before the new ring goes in, and seat it fully so the cover does not pinch it. Dress it with a silicone based o-ring lubricant. Petroleum grease attacks rubber and will cost you the ring in a season.
