The Hayward SPX3200M is the genuine replacement strainer basket for TriStar pumps, listed for the SP3200 and SP3200EE. It is a plastic basket assembly that drops straight into the strainer pot.
What the basket does
Everything the skimmers and the main drain pull in arrives at the pump first. The strainer basket catches the leaves, acorns and grit before they reach the impeller. Without it, or with a split one, that debris goes into the impeller passages, where it costs flow and can jam the pump entirely.
When to replace it
Baskets crack at the rim and around the mesh, and they distort if they have ever been run against a stuck lid or squeezed to fit. A basket that will not sit flat in the pot is letting water past the sides. Replace it rather than working around it, and check the strainer lid o-ring while the pot is open.
