Product details

The Hayward SPX3220C is a new OEM 2 horsepower impeller supplied with its impeller screw, for the TriStar pump range. Hayward lists it for TriStar models SP3200, SP320EE and SP3600, and notes it may fit other Hayward pumps. A second listing for the same part covers the 2 HP TriStar SP3200EE and the EcoStar SP3400VSP pump series, so check your pump model plate against both readings before you order.

Why impellers get replaced

The impeller is the one part in the pump doing the work, and it fails quietly. Fine debris packs into the vane passages and never washes out. Sand and grit erode the vane edges until the impeller no longer grips the water properly. Either way the pump sounds the same but moves less, and the drop is usually blamed on the filter first.

Matching the horsepower

Impellers are horsepower specific. This one is the 2 HP part, and it belongs on a 2 HP motor. Putting the wrong impeller on a motor either loads it beyond its rating or leaves capacity on the table, so confirm the motor before ordering.

While the pump is apart

Reaching the impeller means opening the wet end and pulling the seal plate, which puts the shaft seal in your hands. It is standard practice to fit a new one at the same time rather than reuse a seal that has already been separated.

Which TriStar models does it fit?
The source lists two sets of models. One reading gives TriStar SP3200, SP320EE and SP3600. The other gives the 2 HP TriStar SP3200EE and the EcoStar SP3400VSP series. Check your pump model plate against both before ordering.
Does the impeller screw come with it?
Yes. The impeller screw is included with the impeller.
Can I use a 2 HP impeller on a different horsepower motor?
No. The impeller has to match the horsepower of the motor. Fitting the wrong one either overloads the motor or wastes its capacity.
How do I know the impeller is worn out?
Flow drops off with a clean filter and a clear basket, and the pump reads lower pressure than it used to. Pull the impeller and look for debris packed in the vanes or eroded vane edges.
