The Hayward SPX3200E is the seal plate for TriStar pumps. It is the genuine Hayward part, listed for models SP3200 and SP3200EE.
What the seal plate does
The seal plate is the wall between the wet end and the motor. It bolts to the motor face, the impeller runs just in front of it, and it carries the mechanical shaft seal that keeps pool water out of the motor bearings. Everything about whether a pump stays dry inside depends on this plate and the seal it holds.
When to replace it
A seal plate that is cracked, warped from a freeze or eaten by corrosion will leak no matter how good the new shaft seal is. If a pump keeps wetting the motor after a seal change, the plate itself is the next suspect. It is buried behind the impeller, so it is worth inspecting every time the pump is open.
