The Waterway 313-1400 is the shaft slinger for Waterway pool pumps. It is a small rubber ring that fits over the motor shaft, and it does one job well.
Why it matters
Mechanical seals do not fail all at once. They start with a weep, and that water follows the spinning shaft straight toward the motor. The slinger sits in the path, turns with the shaft, and throws the water outward before it can reach the bearings or the windings. It is the last line of defense between a small seal leak and a dead motor.
When to fit one
Any time the pump is apart for a shaft seal, put a new slinger on. An old one goes hard and loses its grip on the shaft, and plenty of motors are rebuilt without one ever going back in. Waterway lists this slinger for the Hi-Flo, Center Discharge and Executive 48 and 56 frame pumps.
