The Waterway 805-0238 is the genuine diffuser o-ring for the Champion 56 frame pump and the related Waterway wet ends: SVL56, Power Defender, Econo-Flo and SMF.
What it seals
The diffuser caps the impeller and directs water into the volute. The o-ring between the diffuser and the housing is what stops water taking the short way around the impeller instead of through it. When that o-ring flattens or hardens, the pump moves less water than the motor is working for, and priming can take longer than it should.
Fitting
Replace it whenever the wet end is open. A used o-ring has taken a set in the groove it came from and rarely seals as well the second time. A silicone based o-ring lubricant on assembly helps it seat evenly and makes the next service easier.
