The Intermatic AG3000 is a three mode surge protective device for 120/240 VAC single phase power, rated for use as a Type 1 or Type 2 device and housed in an outdoor enclosure. It wires directly to a disconnect or switch.

What it protects

Most homes have surge strips on the television and the computer and nothing at all on the equipment that costs the most to replace. Heat pumps, air handlers, mini splits and pool pad electronics all sit downstream of the same panel, and a single event can take them out. The AG3000 goes in ahead of that equipment.

How it is built

Protection runs on three modes, line to ground, line to line and line to neutral. The clamping element is a TPMOV, a thermally protected metal oxide varistor, which is designed to fail safely instead of the way an unprotected MOV can. The enclosure is Type 4X, watertight and UV resistant, and it is UL Listed to ANSI/UL 1449.

Knowing it still works

A green LED reports the state of the protection. That matters, because a surge device that has already absorbed its last hit looks identical to a working one from the outside. Intermatic backs the unit with a three year product warranty and a $7,500 connected equipment warranty for three years.
