Up rated, and why it matters

Up rated and full rated motors of the same nominal horsepower are not interchangeable on paper. An up rated motor quotes the larger number with a 1.0 service factor, while a full rated motor of the same real output quotes a smaller number with a higher service factor. When you replace a motor, match the rating as well as the horsepower or the pump will move a different amount of water than it did before.

Frame and shaft

The motor is a 48Y frame with a flex 48 threaded shaft, the common pattern for square flange residential pumps. Take the nameplate details off the motor you are pulling out and compare them line by line before ordering.

Fitting a motor is a wet end job: the impeller threads onto the new shaft, and the shaft seal is a wear item that is worth changing while the pump is apart.

What does up rated mean?
An up rated motor states the higher horsepower figure and carries a 1.0 service factor. This one is 0.75 HP up rated, so it is not the same as a 0.75 HP full rated motor with a 1.65 service factor.
Why do I see two part numbers for this motor?
The facts carry BN24V1 as the part number and BN24SS alongside it. Both refer to this 0.75 HP up rated 115v motor, so match either number from your old motor.
Will this fit my pump?
It is a 48Y frame motor with a flex 48 threaded shaft. Read the nameplate on the motor you are replacing and match the frame, the shaft type, the horsepower, the service factor and the voltage before ordering.
