What it does
The orifice plate forms the metered opening that the skimmer draws water through. The rest of the skimmer is designed around that opening, so a plate that is cracked, chipped or distorted changes how the whole assembly performs.
Fitting it
It goes in place of the original with no modification to the skimmer body. The orifice plate gasket is a separate part. If the old gasket is flattened, hardened or split, replace it at the same time, because a new plate seated on a tired gasket often still leaks.
