Quick overview

  • For the Swimquip U-3 skimmer Matched to the U-3 skimmer rather than sold as a universal plate.
  • 8-3/8 inch diameter Measure the seat in your skimmer before ordering, since vac plates are close in size across brands.
  • Two part numbers, one plate Listed as 08650-0042, with the older OEM number given as 8650-42.
  • Seals the skimmer for vacuuming The plate sits in place of the basket lid so suction pulls only through the vacuum hose.
  • Keeps the hose steady A proper plate stops the hose lifting out of the skimmer while you work.
  • Simple part to keep spare Vac plates crack and go missing, and the pool is hard to vacuum without one.

Product details

This is the Swimquip U-3 skimmer vacuum plate, Pentair part 08650-0042, also carried under the OEM number 8650-42. It measures 8-3/8 inches in diameter.

What it does

The vacuum plate drops into the skimmer in place of the basket lid arrangement and gives the vacuum hose a sealed connection. With the plate fitted, the pump pulls through the hose rather than across the skimmer opening, which is the difference between a vacuum head that grips the floor and one that drifts around picking up nothing.

Check before ordering

Vacuum plates from different manufacturers are close enough in size to fool you. Measure the seat in your skimmer against the 8-3/8 inch figure, and confirm you have a U-3 skimmer body.

Questions and answers

What people ask about this product, answered by our pool techs.

Which skimmer does it fit?
The Swimquip U-3 skimmer.
What size is the plate?
8-3/8 inches in diameter.
Why are there two part numbers?
The current number is 08650-0042 and the older OEM number is 8650-42. They refer to the same plate.
What is a vacuum plate for?
It seats in the skimmer so that suction is drawn through the vacuum hose alone. Without it, the skimmer keeps pulling surface water and the vacuum barely picks up.
