Product details

The Pentair 85001900 is the American Products skimmer vacuum plate, 8 inches in diameter. It is the genuine manufacturer part.

What it does

Vacuuming through the skimmer only works if the skimmer is sealed. The plate drops into the skimmer above the basket and closes the opening, so the pump can only draw water through the vacuum hose connected to it. Without the plate, or with one that no longer seats flat, the pump takes the easy path and pulls water over the top of the skimmer instead. The vacuum head then feels weak no matter how good the pump is.

Check the size

Vacuum plates come in several diameters and they are not interchangeable. This one measures 8 inches. Take a tape to your skimmer opening before ordering, since a plate that is slightly too small will lift and leak and one that is too large will not go in at all.

When to replace

Plates cup, craze and crack with age and sun. Once a plate has warped it never seals again, so if you are chasing lost vacuum suction, look at the plate before you look at the pump.

What size is the plate?
Eight inches in diameter. Measure the opening in your skimmer before ordering, because vacuum plates are sold in several diameters and a plate that does not seat will not seal.
Do I take the basket out first?
No. The plate sits above the basket so the basket keeps catching leaves and debris while you vacuum. Emptying it first is worth doing if it is already full.
Why does my vacuum lose suction without one?
Without a plate the pump pulls water in over the top of the skimmer as well as through the hose. Sealing the skimmer sends the whole flow down the hose, which is where the suction has to be.
Is this a genuine Pentair part?
