The Pentair R38008 is the generic Rainbow replacement skimmer basket, a molded plastic basket listed for the Hayward® SP-1070, the Bermuda 516112, the SwimQuip U3, the Jacuzzi 4138 and the Aladdin B-9 skimmers.

Why the basket matters

Everything the skimmer pulls off the surface lands in this basket. When the basket cracks or the rim breaks away, leaves and grit pass straight through to the pump, where they end up in the strainer basket or wedged in the impeller. A basket costs a fraction of that afternoon.

A wear item

Baskets sit in sunlight and sanitized water all season, and they go brittle. Handles snap, rims split, and a basket that has been lifted out wet a few hundred times eventually gives up. Keeping a spare is normal practice.

Does a cracked basket matter?
Yes. Once the basket splits, leaves and grit go straight through to the pump strainer and then to the impeller. Replacing the basket is much cheaper than clearing a blocked impeller.
