This is the genuine Hayward SPX1096CA skimmer basket for SP1092 and SP1096 series skimmers, the same basket the skimmer was built around.
Why the fit matters
A skimmer basket only works if it sits square in the throat. The Hayward part measures 5-9/16" across the top, 5-1/8" across the bottom and 3" tall. A basket that is close but not right will rock, tip or leave a gap at the rim, and debris slides past it into the line.
What it protects
Everything the skimmer catches, the pump does not have to. Leaves and twigs stopped here never reach the pump strainer or the impeller. Once a basket cracks or the bottom gives way it stops doing that job, so it is worth changing on sight rather than waiting for a clogged pump.
