The Hayward SPX1082D is the plastic basket support ring for Hayward inground skimmers. It is the genuine Hayward part.
What it does
The support ring sits inside the skimmer and holds the basket at the right height. It is a small piece that nobody thinks about until it breaks, and then the basket drops down, sits at an angle and stops sealing against the throat. Leaves and grit slip around the edge and head for the pump strainer instead of staying in the basket where they belong.
When to replace it
Pull the basket and look at the ring. If it is cracked, distorted or simply gone, replace it. It is a cheap part and there is no benefit in nursing a broken one through another season.
