This is the weir door for the Pentair Bermuda skimmer, listed as 516252Z and also shown as 516252. It measures 8-1/2 in. wide by 5-3/8 in. tall and is molded in white.
What the weir does
The weir is the hinged flap in the skimmer throat. It floats up against the water line and narrows the opening, which speeds up the surface flow and pulls floating leaves and oils in rather than letting them drift past. When the pump shuts off, the weir falls closed so what is in the basket stays there instead of washing back into the pool.
When to replace it
Weirs crack, warp and go brittle in sunlight, and they get knocked out of their hinge. If the skimmer no longer seems to grab surface debris, or debris keeps reappearing in the pool overnight, the weir is the first thing to look at.
