The Waterway 550-9950 is the white weir door assembly for the Waterway Renegade pool skimmer. It is the hinged flap that sits in the throat of the skimmer.
What the weir is for
The weir floats up so its top edge rides just at the water line. That forces the skimmer to draw the thin surface layer, which is where oils, pollen, dust and floating leaves collect. Take the weir away and the skimmer pulls from the full depth of the opening, and surface debris simply drifts past.
The other half of the job
When the pump shuts off, the weir falls closed and holds whatever is in the basket. Without it, an afternoon of collected leaves floats straight back into the pool overnight. A weir that is cracked, stuck or gone is worth replacing on both counts.
