This is the genuine Waterway 550-9957 skimmer weir for the Renegade skimmer, in gray.
What it does
The weir is the flap that hangs in the skimmer throat. When the pump runs, water flowing into the skimmer pushes it open and pulls the surface layer in with it. When the pump stops, the weir falls back and traps what is already in the basket instead of letting it drift back into the pool.
When to replace it
Weirs are a wear part. They warp, they get brittle, and the small hinge tabs snap. A weir that hangs open all the time or sticks shut is the usual reason a skimmer stops picking up leaves, so it is worth checking before blaming the pump or the basket.
