Why the grids matter
A DE filter does its work in the layer of diatomaceous earth held on the grid fabric. The grids themselves are just the frame and the cloth that carry that layer. When the fabric tears, thins or pulls away from the frame, the DE washes through and ends up back in the pool, and the filter loses the fine filtration it was chosen for.
Why replace the set
