Product details

The Pool Tool 104R-KIT is a zinc anode replacement kit. It is supplied complete with the zinc anode, the thru rod, a new cap and an O-ring, so the whole assembly is renewed rather than only the zinc.

How a sacrificial anode works

Zinc sits low enough on the galvanic scale that it corrodes before the other metals in a pool. That is the whole point of it. The anode gives itself up to the water chemistry so ladders, rails, light rings and other metal hardware do not.

When to replace it

A zinc anode is a wear item. Plan on replacing it about every three years, and inspect it sooner if the pool has had heavy chemical swings. The practical rule is size: once the anode has been eaten down to roughly half of what it was when new, it no longer has enough zinc left to protect anything and should be changed.
