Product details

Natural Chemistry Stain Free Extra Strength is a metal stain remover built on a blend of industrial strength ascorbic acid. It lifts iron, copper and manganese staining off pool surfaces and does it without adding phosphates to the water.

How the treatment runs

Balance the water first, then lower chlorine to at least 1 ppm. Chlorine is an oxidizer and it works directly against what ascorbic acid is trying to do, so treating a heavily chlorinated pool wastes product. With the pump running, broadcast 1 lb per 10,000 gallons around the perimeter of the pool.

Then hold the metal in solution

An hour later, add METALfree at 33.9 oz per 20,000 gallons. Removing a stain puts the metal back into the water, and without a sequestrant it simply plates out again somewhere else. Add a pulp based filter aid to a cartridge or sand filter, or make sure a DE filter is properly charged, then vacuum the pool slowly and thoroughly.

Afterward

Clean the filter after 24 hours, backwashing and recharging as appropriate for your filter type, then test and rebalance. Do not shock for at least a week. Continued weekly METALfree keeps the metal from staining again.

Questions and answers

What people ask about this product, answered by our pool techs.

What kind of stains does it remove?
Metal staining. It is built around ascorbic acid, which is what lifts iron, copper and manganese deposits off pool surfaces.
How much do I use?
Balance the water first and bring chlorine down to at least 1 ppm, then add 1 lb per 10,000 gallons around the perimeter of the pool with the pump running.
Do I need anything else with it?
Yes. An hour later, Natural Chemistry directs you to add METALfree at 33.9 oz per 20,000 gallons so the metal that came off the surface stays held in the water rather than settling back onto it.
Can I shock the pool afterward?
Not for at least a week. Shocking too soon re-oxidizes the metal and the stain returns. If chlorine drops very low, add small amounts and stay under 2 ppm.
