Product details

SeaKlear 90614SKR is a balanced shock oxidizer for spas, supplied in a 2 lb size. It uses active oxygen rather than chlorine to oxidize the water.

What oxidizing does

A spa holds a few hundred gallons and takes the same body soil a pool takes from a much larger crowd. Suntan oils, perspiration and other organic contaminants build up fast, and once they combine with sanitizer they produce the stale chlorine smell people blame on too much chlorine. Oxidizing burns those compounds off. This product is listed for exactly that: removing odors and the chlorine smell, and eliminating organic contaminants, suntan oils and perspiration.

Why active oxygen

Because it is not a chlorine shock, it does not spike the sanitizer level, and the spa can be used again after just 15 minutes. That is the practical reason many spa owners keep an active oxygen shock on the shelf rather than shocking with chlorine and waiting.

Follow the directions on the container for dosing, add with the circulation running, and never mix spa chemicals together in the same scoop or container.

Questions and answers

What people ask about this product, answered by our pool techs.

How long before I can get back in the spa?
15 minutes. It works quickly, which is the main practical difference between an active oxygen shock and a chlorine shock.
Does this add chlorine to my spa?
No. It oxidizes using active oxygen rather than chlorine.
Why does my spa smell of chlorine even though I keep shocking it?
That smell comes from chlorine already bound up with body soil and organics rather than from too much sanitizer. Oxidizing the water breaks those compounds down, and this product is listed for removing odors and the chlorine smell.
What does it actually remove?
Organic contaminants, suntan oils and perspiration, which are the loads a spa picks up fastest because of the small water volume and the high bather count per gallon.
