Jandy R0359400 is the tie rod knob for the DEV series DE filters, the DEV48 and DEV60, and it is also carried for the DEL series DEL48 and DEL60. It is the genuine Jandy part.
What it does
The knob threads onto the tie rod and pulls it down. That downward pull is what clamps the two halves of the filter together and lets the tank seal. It is turned by hand, so no tool is involved in opening or closing the filter for a cleaning.
Why they fail
A knob that is turned open and shut every season eventually cracks across the body or strips its threads, and once it will not hold, the filter cannot be sealed. It is a small part that stops the whole filter from being usable, which is why it is worth having the correct Jandy number rather than trying to substitute a generic knob.
While the filter is open, look at the tie rod itself and the tank o-ring. Both are separate parts, and both are easier to deal with now than after the filter is buttoned back up.
