The Waterway 522-5247-6S is a complete aboveground pool equipment system: a 22 inch Clearwater sand filter and a 1 THP two speed Hi-Flo II pump, supplied as one package with a 3 foot NEMA cord.
The filter side
Twenty two inches is the larger Clearwater tank, which means more sand in the bed and more surface for the water to pass through. Inside, high flow laterals collect the filtered water without choking the rate the pump can move. The multiport valve connects through a union, so the whole filter can be unbolted and rolled out of the way when it needs service.
The pump side
The Hi-Flo II is Waterway high performance aboveground pump, here at 1 THP with two speeds. Low speed handles routine filtration hours quietly and cheaply. High speed is on hand when the pool needs a full turnover, a vacuum or a backwash. The pump carries a large 6 inch trap with a two piece lid, so the basket holds more debris and takes less effort to reach.
Who it suits
This is the straightforward answer for an aboveground pool that needs both halves of its equipment replaced at once, or for a new install where matching a pump to a filter by hand is more work than it is worth.
