The PoolTux Emperor closing bundle for a 12'x24' oval above ground pool pairs a solid winter cover with a 15k chemical closing kit and a 4' x 8' air pillow.

The cover

The cover measures 16'x28' oval, which gives a 4 ft overlap around a 12'x24' oval pool. It is 8 mil black on tan triple laminated polyethylene with heat sealed seams, and the edge carries a sewn-in polypropylene cord with aluminum grommets spaced every three feet. A deluxe aluminum cable winch and a vinyl coated steel lock-down cable are included to draw it tight around the top rail. It is backed by a 20 year warranty, with the warranty card included in the box.

Chemicals and the pillow

The 15k chemical closing kit treats the water before the pool is shut down for the season, sized for a pool of about 15,000 gallons. The 4' x 8' air pillow floats under the cover in the middle of the pool. It takes up the pressure of ice expansion so that load does not push against the pool wall, and it crowns the cover so rain and snowmelt run off toward the edges.

Ordering by pool size

Order this bundle by the size of your pool, not the size of the cover. This is the 12'x24' oval pool option, and the 16'x28' oval cover measurement is the 4 ft overlap built into it. A solid cover blocks light and debris, so rain and snowmelt will collect on top of it over the winter and a cover pump is still needed to clear that water off.

My pool is 12'x24' oval. Why is the cover 16'x28'?
The extra size is deliberate overlap. A winter cover has to reach past the water and over the top rail so the cable and winch can pull it tight, so the oval cover is cut larger than the pool at a 4 ft overlap.
What does the air pillow do?
It floats under the cover in the middle of the pool. As ice forms it takes the expansion pressure that would otherwise push against the pool wall, and it crowns the cover so rain and melt water run to the edges instead of collecting in the center. This bundle includes a 4' x 8' pillow.
Is the 15k closing kit sized for my pool?
The kit included here is the 15k version, meaning it is sized for a pool of about 15,000 gallons. Check your pool's water volume against that figure before you dose it.
Do I need anything else to hold the cover down?
No. A deluxe aluminum cable winch and a vinyl coated steel lock-down cable are both included, which is what secures the cover around the top rail of a 12'x24' oval above ground pool.
