Stain Solution #1 is Jack's Magic treatment for iron, cobalt and spot etching stains, in the 2 lb bottle. It is non-acidic, and it works on all types of pool surface with the pool still full.
Matching the product to the stain
Metal stains are not all the same. Iron and cobalt behave differently from copper or from organic staining, and a treatment aimed at the wrong one wastes a dose and leaves the mark where it was. This is the one for iron, cobalt and spot etching, which is the pinpoint pitting that shows up on plaster surfaces.
How the treatment runs
The dose is 2 lbs per 12,000 gallons. These stains normally clear within 48 hours, and the water usually needs only minimal rebalancing afterward rather than a full reset. Being non-acidic matters here: acid washing removes stains by taking surface off the pool, and that is not something you want to repeat often.
